The year opened in February with a games afternoon, which was held in a common room in Vienna’s 2nd district. We were joined by some well-known club members and some new game enthusiasts. There were also children’s games and willing players to entertain the little ones. At this point, a big thank you again to all participants.

Funnily enough, the day was all about creativity and imagination, which was challenged by convincing arguments, creative answers and, last but not least, imagination and detective instinct. The afternoon started with an entertaining game called β€œTrial by Trolley”, which had already caused a few laughs and allowed new players to quickly integrate. We then continued with “Nobody is Perfect”, which occasionally pushed some players to their creative limits and sometimes also required them to hide their knowledge well. The evening concluded with the fantasy story game β€œMythos Tails”, which took us into the world of H.P. Lovecraft put us in the role of a group of detectives looking for the truth.

Those present looked after each other’s physical well-being and so cookies, chips, drinks and, at the end, a pizza found their way onto the tables.

Let’s take a closer look at the played games:

Trial by Trolley from the creators of the popular webcomic “Cyanide and Happines” is a card game based on the classic moral dilemma of trolley problem, and takes on this concept in a humorously macabre way. In this game, players are divided into two teams and each has to come up with arguments to steer the ominous trolley onto the opposing team’s tracks. This decision must then be made by the player whose turn it is to be the platoon leader. With an almost endless variety of cards showcasing quirky characters, absurd scenarios and unexpected twists, Trial by Trolly offers a unique blend of strategy, psychology and dark humor that covers themes from life to death. Trial by Trolly is a great party game that guarantees laughs and discussions. It shows how a seemingly simple decision can quickly become complex and stressful, making it an experience for any game night.

Nobody is Perfect is a creative and comedy fraught parlor game that puts players’ imaginations to the test, challenging their ability to bluff and see through the bluffs of their fellow players. The game is about inventing convincing but completely fictional answers to obscure and often bizarre questions, with the aim of convincing the other players that these inventions are the truth. While real knowledge can occasionally be helpful, it’s creativity and persuasion that really count here. Each round of the game unfolds into a chaotic discussion, full of humor and surprising twists as the true answers are revealed. Perfect for evenings with friends or family gatherings, the party game offers hours of fun and proves that a little creativity and a lot of nonsense can go a long way.

Mythos Tails takes players into a dark and captivating world inspired by the eerie tales of H.P. Lovecraft. In this, the participants delve deep into the universe of the Cthulhu Mythos and have to solve challenging puzzles and make decisions together in order to win points and ultimately win against the game itself. The oppressive atmosphere of the Cthulhu Mythos is captured in a narrative experience in which each player can be the narrator of the story. With every decision, players delve deeper into a world in which the unknown and the unfathomable lurk. Fans of the horror genre, lovers of complex storytelling in games and co-operative games should know this puzzle-solving game.

We were already able to implement a few points from last year’s conclusion and everyone present agreed that a games afternoon was better than the previous games evenings. The problem of lighting conditions of the pubs could also be eliminated in the common room. Now it’s time to gain even more experience in this format. Perhaps in the future look to ensure that the games are a little more different and don’t make your head spin quite so much. But all in all it was a very successful, sociable and funny afternoon that lasted until late in the evening.

We are already looking forward to the next time in June! Further information can be found in our event calendar!
